Guidelines and General Information
This form is to be used to request a sanction for a state qualifying spirit competition hosted in the state of New Mexico. Typically, only one (1) competition per day is approved statewide; more than one (1) competition per day may be considered when circumstances allow.
Approval is generally granted on a first-come, first-served basis. However, requested dates may not always be accommodated due to extenuating facility issues, venue rental conflicts with another requesting host, judge availability, and/or the need to maximize the number of competitions offered in a season while meeting the scheduling needs of spirit teams and member schools statewide.
As a result, hosts may need to be flexible with scheduling. If the requested date cannot be accommodated, the host will be contacted to identify an alternate date; it is helpful if an alternate date is provided upon completing the form.
An athletic administrator (e.g., athletic director, school administrator or school district athletic administrator) must sign off on this form requesting the sanction of an in-state spirit competition (name and signature requested at the end of form).
Refer to the process below for completing the form and having an athletic administrator (e.g., athletic director, school administrator or school district athletic administrator) sign off on the form.
- The form is to be completed by the competition coordinator (person overseeing the competition).
- At the end of the form, contact information for the athletic administrator signing off on the form is to be provided (name/title/email).
- Follow directions after providing the athletic administrator’s contact information; the form will be routed electronically to the athletic administrator to sign off on the form.
- Upon the athletic administrator signing off on the form and following directions to submit the form electronically, the form will be sent to the NMAA for consideration of the request.
A competition must meet the following requirements to be considered:
- The competition must be held within the boundaries of the state of New Mexico.
- The competition must be held during the spirit competition season defined in the NMAA bylaws.
Only NMAA member schools may be invited and permitted to participate in the competition.
- A minimum of four (4) NMAA member school varsity teams must attend. If the competition includes both cheer and dance, a minimum of four (4) varsity cheer teams and a minimum of four (4) varsity dance teams must attend.
- Competition hosts must be prepared to compensate judges assigned to a competition. A sanctioned competition must have at least two (2) certified performance judges and one (1) technical judge registered through the Association (or with comparable certifications, subject
to approval). If the competition includes both cheer and dance, separate performance judge panels will be assigned, one panel for the cheer session and one panel for the dance session. When available, a full panel – consisting of four (4) performance judges and one (1) technical judge – will be assigned. - Appropriate warm-up and performance areas must be provided and inspected by a USA Cheer & Dance Safety certified coach.
The official host of the competition will be the entity who holds the proof of insurance/certificate of liability for the event.
